A 4G router is the core component of any 4G CCTV solution. It connects your NVR or IP cameras to the internet via a 4G mobile network, replacing the need for a fixed broadband line. When paired with a fixed IP SIM card, you get a remotely accessible internet connection with a permanent public IP address - giving you port forwarding that actually works.
Important: You need a fixed IP SIM card alongside your router. A standard SIM will not give you a fixed IP address. See our Fixed IP SIM Cards guide for details.
Recommended 4G Routers
Millbeck Communications is a Teltonika Diamond Partner. The routers below are the models we recommend for CCTV applications in the UK, based on real-world deployment experience.
The RUT200 replaces the popular RUT240 and RUT241 as Teltonika's entry-level 4G router. Single SIM slot, two Ethernet ports, 802.11n WiFi. Compact and cost-effective - the right choice for a small site with a single Hikvision NVR and a handful of cameras. Running RutOS firmware with full remote management capability.
The RUT901 replaces the RUT950 and RUT951 as the mid-level Teltonika 4G router. Dual SIM slots, four Ethernet ports, WiFi. For most CCTV installations this is the router we recommend. The dual SIM supports a backup network - though with a multi-network SIM in slot one you rarely need it. Four Ethernet ports means you can connect an NVR, a PoE switch, or additional wired devices without a separate switch.
Industrial-grade dual SIM 4G router with Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band WiFi 5 (802.11ac). The RUTX11 is suited to larger or more demanding CCTV installations - multiple cameras, high data throughput, Gigabit LAN. Rugged metal housing. Full RUTX platform firmware with MQTT, Modbus, advanced VPN support. Teltonika's most capable mid-range router.

What About the Old RUT240, RUT241, RUT950, RUT951?
Teltonika regularly updates its product line. The RUT200 replaces the RUT240 and RUT241. The RUT901 replaces the RUT950 and RUT951. If you've been searching for these older models, the newer versions are direct replacements with improved specifications. Configuration is broadly similar - RutOS carries across.
Do I Need 5G?
For the majority of CCTV remote access installations, 4G is more than sufficient. A typical NVR serving remote H.265 streams rarely needs more than 20-30 Mbps. 4G Cat 4 delivers 150 Mbps downstream. If you're on a site with strong 5G coverage and need to push multiple simultaneous HD streams, see our 5G Routers for CCTV guide. Otherwise, save the money.
Our recommendation: For most CCTV installers, start with the RUT901 and a multi-network fixed IP SIM card. It handles the vast majority of sites cleanly, costs less than the RUTX11, and the dual SIM gives you a backup option. Pair it with an external antenna if signal is marginal.
